turquoise beads, bleeding heart

recently discovered an old teeshirt i'd made in high school, an experiment in hand-beading concocted after seeing jean paul gaultier's fall 2003 couture collection.

naturally, being as it was now too small for me to wear, i decided to shred the entire back of it. and while i was at it, i thought to myself, why not add turquoise beads? naturally.

mud flaps, trapdoors.

if the fall-winter 2011 menswear collections are any indication, i probably shouldn't have given away those woolen long-johns i [mis]appropriated from the costume shop during sophomore year of college. balls.

things to procure before next winter: a bolt of wool jersey and skinnier thighs.

alexandre plohkov : cloak redux.

alexandre plokhov is back after a four-year hiatus. after all those wistful cigarettes and longing glances at the [now-defunct] cloak boutique from the fire escape outside nadja's bedroom window, so stoked so stoked so stoked that i might actually be able to snatch up some of his stuff this time around. (employment-pending, of course.)

sidenote: won't lie, not the biggest fan of this radially-symmetric, mirror-mayhem gimmick that seems to be running rampant through recent video editorials. the effect worked beautifully for pugh, abstracting the human form into evocative geometries, creating a spiny, reptilian darkness in keeping with the ambiance of the actual garments; here, it just distracts the hell out of me.

still, i covet all the outerwear. am i a coat-addict?

a relaxing evening with ashleigh and marquis involves a classy luncheon of cheetos (crunchy vs. puffed) and a bottle of wine, two walmart trips, sketchy black-n-milds in grandma's convertible, gettin' loud, nail lacquers and the real housewives of atlanta. this is not sweetie, okay?

of snow and ice and armadillos.

monday's freak snowstorm in south carolina has paralyzed the state, rendering me homebound and focused on internship applications. so far, have applied to alexander wang, joseph altuzarra, proenza schouler, and have a phone interview with peter som scheduled for next week. writing all these cover letters is actually killing me: constantly expounding on why i am the shit and should be considered for positions that don't even pay is exhausting.

taking a breather to have my first cigarette in four days and browsing through the pre-fall collections. the ridiculously cold temperatures coupled with givenchy's latest have driven me to one conclusion: i think it is time for me to learn how to tailor a jacket that looks like an armadillo, crossbred with a yeti on crack.

lookbook.

during my first week back in the united states, in an attempt to kick my life into hyperdrive, i decided to do a photoshoot. gathering pretty much every garment that i'd ever made, including the stuff that i'd done for my first show in december of 2006, and all the stuff i'd thrown together for myself in denmark, i set off to shoot the only way i knew how: guerrilla-style, makeup in the backseat of a car, point-and-shoot camera in a deserted parking lot.

luckily for me, i have friends like marquis and ashleigh, who during the initial fitting with my model, sophia, landed me not only a makeup artist (the fabulous j.renee johnson), but also a photographer (the incredibly talented travis teate). after four exhausting hours in the studio, here are the resulting shots:
